/Eli Verviene/

We are delighted to announce our new Nightime Drama podcast series. We have carefully selected artists for the podcast who’s sound we are passionate about. Our first guest for the series hails from Zurich, Switzerland, DJ Eli Verviene. Eli graced our shores down under in 2013 and again in 2014 playing at both Nightime Drama in Adelaide and 4our in Sydney.

Eli’s approach to djing is to tell her story through her sets, ensuring a diversity of genres, a warm energy and a style that is her own. Recording mixes in the past for the mnml ssgs blog and Resident Advisor, both of which she garnered enthusiastic responses, Eli has now recorded a mix for us at Nightime Drama. A wonderful deep mix with minimal, deep house and techno elements that you will want to play over and over. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

/Deep’a & Biri/

For our 5th Nightime Drama podcast we have selected Tel Aviv-based duo Deep’a & Biri, one of the most promising talents in techno right now. They came onto our radar with their recent ‘’GNZ11’ release on Luke Hess’s label, DeepLabs.

Deep’a has played a significant role in re-building the techno and house scene in Tel Aviv. Hosting DJ’s at such as Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins and Robert Hood, to name a few. Biri is a young producer from Jerusalem who displays a versatility of sounds from techno, Chicago House and classic Detroit.

In 2013 the duo released their first album on DJ Hells Gigolo Records. Derrick May has been supporting Deep’a & Biri’s music since 2014 signing them to his Transmat Booking agency with their release on Transmat Records in 2016 selling out within a week. Their more recent release ‘Basic Cycle’ EP sold out at Hardwax in less than 24 hours.

With their tracks currently being played and charted by some of the scene’s most respected DJs, the industry is taking notice of Biri & Deepa’s talent; the young Israeli artists are on their way to establish themselves as one of the main producers coming from the turbulent Israeli scene.

/Nightime Drama/

As DJ’s, both Peter and Shaun perform as Nightime Drama, a perfect pair known for their versatility, blending deep and dramatic tones and delivering flavours from Chicago, Detroit, Berlin and beyond. /Matt Lush/

For our 7th podcast we introduce ex-Sydney now Berlin based DJ Matt Lush. We recruited Matt early as a Nightime Drama resident of the Sydney events due to his impeccable DJ skills, somewhat intimidating record collection and ability to create an electric atmosphere by blending latest releases with lost gems from the past.

A true DJ’s DJ, Matt fell in love with electronic music in the mid-90’s and started tinkering behind the decks while based in his hometown, Melbourne. But it was his move to Sydney a few years back that quickly helped him find his place. Since the move he’s played at all the best parties in the scene. He has supported DJ’s such as Jeff Mills, Luke Slater, Derrick May, Reeko, Kangding Ray, Dasha Rush, Vril, Answer Code Request, Ø [Phase], Darko Esser, Bas Mooy and Developer at various events around Sydney which gives more than a hint of the high quality of Matt’s skills.

A lover and collector of vinyl, Matt plays a range of sounds from across the techno, electro and house spectrum, which is evident in this all-vinyl podcast, with a few Nightime Drama gems thrown in for good measure. We hope you enjoy this mix and we wish Matt all the best of luck with his Berlin adventure.

/Stefan Vincent/

We are thrilled to announce a very special edition of the Nightime Drama Podcast: Stefan Vincent recorded live at Tresor!

For almost 10 years Stefan has been slowly edging closer to the techno foreground through releases on the likes of, Sthlm LTD, Dynamic Reflection, Anagram and more…

His ability to create deep, textured emotional techno is something that has captured our imaginations at Nightime Drama and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on board.

/Owen Jay/

Since the mid 90’s, Owen Jay has been one of the main contributors to the development of underground music culture in Malta; as a DJ, producer, event promoter & label owner.

His attraction to electronic music blossomed in the early 90’s, leading him to the Detroit sounds of UR, Metroplex & Peacefrog Records. Unavoidably, his DJ sets feature a blend of Detroit, NY & Chicago house and techno.

During the last decade Owen Jay’s sound has gradually evolved, however, it is the alternative and distinct sound which sets him apart from the mainstream, earning himself appearances at renowned events and venues including Panorama Bar & Tresor, as well as many others.

Owen Jay has released many records under Underground Quality, Deep Explorer, Minuendo, Moods & Grooves (Detroit), Contrast Wax, Housewax and his own Batti Batti Label. Owen also releases under the moniker Gauss, a project in collaboration with Natan H (LA).

We hope you enjoy this deep mix from one of Malta’s pioneers in electronic music.

/Blackhall & Bookless/

Following on from Daniela La Luz’s brilliant live set for our last edition, the twelfth podcast in our series is also a live recording – this one capturing a very special night for UK techno and house mavens Blackhall & Bookless.

Originally from Newcastle, now based in London, and regularly blowing up spots on the road all over the world with their aptly named Jaunt parties, this pair of lifelong friends turned DJ and production partners have seen their star steadily rise the real way, over the long haul. The Jaunt name and vibe has now crystallised into a label with B&B’s own work alongside releases and remixes from peers like Fred P., Virginia, Hiver and Luke Hess.

This live mix was recorded last November at Zouk in Singapore, where B&B opened for none other than Jeff Mills. The duo’s clear mastery of the special art of warming up for a legend – especially one with such a famously energetic style – makes for a perfect podcast experience. This set’s precision dynamics, lush atmosphere and slowly building intensity, over 80 minutes of pulsating techno styles ranging from minimal to leftfield to four-to-the-floor, come into their own here, demanding fascinated repeat listens.
