We are delighted to announce our new Nightime Drama podcast series. We have carefully selected artists for the podcast who’s sound we are passionate about. Our first guest for the series hails from Zurich, Switzerland, DJ Eli Verviene. Eli graced our shores down under in 2013 and again in 2014 playing at both Nightime Drama in Adelaide and 4our in Sydney.
Eli’s approach to djing is to tell her story through her sets, ensuring a diversity of genres, a warm energy and a style that is her own. Recording mixes in the past for the mnml ssgs blog and Resident Advisor, both of which she garnered enthusiastic responses, Eli has now recorded a mix for us at Nightime Drama. A wonderful deep mix with minimal, deep house and techno elements that you will want to play over and over. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
For our 2nd podcast we introduce a pioneer of the UK scene, Aubrey. Aubrey´s sets and productions are well known for their sophistication having released over 100 records since 1990 on labels such as Metroplex Records, Ostgut Ton, Nightime Drama, Mosaic and of course his own label Solid Groove.
Beside working in the studio recording his solo EP´s, Aubrey is a desired remixer, reshaping tracks for people like DJ Stingray, Marcel Fengler and others.
This incredible set is a perfect line between house and techno, with a jazzy, trippy and soulful vibe.
/Basic Soul Unit/
Toronto based house and techno producer/DJ, Stuart Li a.k.a Basic Soul Unit delivers our next Nightime Drama podcast. A source of left-of-center techno and house for years releasing on labels such as Dolly, Ostgut Ton, Creme Organization, and his own label Lab.our, Stuart Li’s productions can swing from lush and soulful to crunchy and jacking.
Li delivers the goods in this podcast, just over an hour of exquisitely selected house and techno cuts.
For our next Nightime Drama podcast we welcome Brian James from Malta. Recently releasing on XDB’s label Metrolux and local label Batti Batti, Brian is a DJ that has helped shape the underground scene of Malta importing artists such as Donato Dozzy, Abdulla Rashim and Milton Bradley to Malta’s shores.
Brian James, expresses his inner self through music and remains faithful to his dark and deep roots, managing to create a perfect equilibrium of form and sound. Throughout a night; walls, floors and ceilings vibrate from a euphoric dancing crowd, whilst sound waves serve as the perfect medium for a holistic Dj-crowd experience.
/Deep’a & Biri/
For our 5th Nightime Drama podcast we have selected Tel Aviv-based duo Deep’a & Biri, one of the most promising talents in techno right now. They came onto our radar with their recent ‘’GNZ11’ release on Luke Hess’s label, DeepLabs.
Deep’a has played a significant role in re-building the techno and house scene in Tel Aviv. Hosting DJ’s at such as Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins and Robert Hood, to name a few. Biri is a young producer from Jerusalem who displays a versatility of sounds from techno, Chicago House and classic Detroit.
In 2013 the duo released their first album on DJ Hells Gigolo Records. Derrick May has been supporting Deep’a & Biri’s music since 2014 signing them to his Transmat Booking agency with their release on Transmat Records in 2016 selling out within a week. Their more recent release ‘Basic Cycle’ EP sold out at Hardwax in less than 24 hours.
With their tracks currently being played and charted by some of the scene’s most respected DJs, the industry is taking notice of Biri & Deepa’s talent; the young Israeli artists are on their way to establish themselves as one of the main producers coming from the turbulent Israeli scene.
We hope you enjoy this techno inspired DJ set from the talented duo on Nightime Drama.
